Steampunk is a subgenre of art and speculative fiction which came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power was still widely used.

Steampunk was influenced by, and often adopts the style of the scientific romances of the 19th century, by Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Mark Twain, and Mary Shelley. More images after the jump.
